1. About the Department :

Dr. (Mrs.) Maithili Barahate

Assistant Professor and Head

Department of Humanities, PIET, Nagpur

The Department of Humanities plays a unique and distinctive role in an institute where the culture of science and technology prevails. It is believed that engineering and science are humanistic and socially deprived enterprises. Hence a complete science and technology education must include study of languages, economics, social and behavioral sciences where the students unites application of scientific principles along with human, moral and social understanding.

The undergraduate courses taught by the Department faculty aim at making the science and technology students aware of the various issues concerning man and society. They are meant to sensitize students to the broader social, cultural, economic, ethical and humane issues involved in social change.

Overall, the Department of Humanities objectives are:

  • To encourage its students to be socially aware, intellectual individuals who are capable of making independent assessments of themselves.
  • To set right the knowledge of the students in the fields of social sciences and the world around us.
  • To acquaint students with global communication skills.
  • To educate students on the Indian political and national system so as to deepen their respect, understanding, and loyalty to their country in this age of brain-drain.
